Play howto

This is a short howto explaining how to play BattleWorms. There are a number of different game modes, each with their own characteristics. Each of these will be explained in more detail. Next to that an overview of all the controls will be given and some tips on how to become the ultimate worm killer.

Deathmatch

This is a normal shoot all your enemies kind of game. The goal is to get to a certain score as fast as possible, before your enemies do so. The one who reaches the score which is set as the victory score will win the game. You gain a point for each worm you kill and you loose a point for each time you commit surcuide.

Team Deathmatch

This is just like a normal deathmatchi, but now you work in teams. The score of each teammember is added up to get the total team score. Again for each enemy worm you kill you get 1 point and for each time you kill yourself or a teammember you loose a point.

Last Worm Crawling

In the last worm crawling game you have to keep alive. You start out with a number of lives and each time you die you loose a life. When your life counter hits zero you are out of the game and can only watch as a spectator. The last worm left won the game. The trick is thus to kill without getting hurt.

Sheep Match

Bored of always killing worms for points? Let's point your guns towards the sheep now. Offcourse nothing prevents you from killing your fellow worm hunters. Afterall it was your sheep. For each sheep you kill you gain 1 point. For each time you kill yourself you loose a point. It does not matter if you kill any other worms. Happy hunting.

Capture The Flag

In capture the flag there are two teams, blue and red. Each team has their own base with a flag in it. It basicly works like team deathmatch but now the only way to gain points is to capture the enemies' flag. You can capture the enemies' flag by passing it with your worm. The flag will automaticly be transferred to the worm. But you won't score a point untill you have returned the flag to your own base. Also your own flag needs to be in your own base. Thus if the enemy has captured your flag you won't be able to score. When you bring the enemies' flag into your base and your flag is there you and thus your team will get 1 point. If your flag is captured by the enemy you can retrieve it by killing the worm carrying the flag and go over your own flag. The flag will be returned to base immidiatly. The trick is teamplay.

The following controls are the default controls. They can be changed in the options menu.

Tips and Tricks

In order to prevent people from killing you it is vital to keep moving. Because your worms can't move very fast on the ground you will most likely either have to dig your way into the ground or fly trough the air. Moving through the air can be done using either the rope or the jetpack. The rope is always available while the jetpack runs out of fuel quickly. It would be wise to use the rope in most situations and only use the jetpack when this is absolutely necessary. For example in a situation where you need to get away fast and you do not have time to hang around waiting for the hook to grab hold onto something. Once you got the hang of the rope you will be flying like tarzan trough the maps.

Next to keep moving your worm around it is also important to actually shoot your enemies. There are a lot of different weapons and different weapons should be used in different sitations. For example a cannon is good for the shoot-and-get-out-of-there-situations. And a binary nuke will get rid of that little group of worms. You should select a number of different weapons in your personal options menu and then use your weapons wisely during gameplay.

There are two ways you can change your weapons. One is using the shortcut keys. The other is using the shift key with the left and right keys (you can turn this on in the Controls options window). Learn to use them both will give you an advantage in battle. If you have all your weapons ready and you meet your opponent, fire and when out of ammo switch to a new weapon. You will quickly unleash a lot of damage on your opponent. Last but not least, remember that your ammo needs to be recharged. When out of ammo find a safe place and recharge all your weapons.
